Editorial policy: primary sources, checked dates and corrections

By Chris

Every figure on this site is traceable to a primary document, with the date we last checked it. This page explains how that works, how we compare accounts, what we refuse to publish and how to get something corrected.

How we research

Figures come from primary sources only. For Monzo Business that means Monzo’s plans and pricing page, its business account fee information, the business account terms, the business referral scheme terms, its help pages and its feature pages on monzo.com. For other providers it means each provider’s own pricing and terms pages. For tax and deadlines it means gov.uk and HMRC. For deposit protection it means the FSCS, and for company and regulatory status it means Companies House and the FCA register. We do not repeat a figure from another review site, forum or news article as fact.

Every figure lives in one place in the site’s code, with its source and the date we last checked it. Pages pull figures from there rather than typing them in, so when a fee changes it changes everywhere at once. Every page that cites a figure ends with a Sources block listing the documents it relies on. The current checked date for Monzo figures is 9 October 2026. Where a source carries its own version or “last updated” date, such as Monzo’s fee information and terms, we show that too, so you can see whether the document has moved since we read it.

When sources disagree

Monzo’s own pages do not always agree with each other, and we would rather tell you than quietly pick one. Two examples on the site today:

  • Savings. One Monzo page advertises up to 3.25% AER (variable); another shows 1.30% AER (variable). Monzo does not publish the rate per plan, so we say “up to” and that your rate depends on your plan, and tell you to check the app. The savings page explains this.
  • Limited company overdrafts. The same Monzo page describes overdrafts for limited companies and also says Monzo does not offer them. We report both and tell you to check in the app. See the overdrafts and loans page.

The general rule: the legal document beats the marketing page, the more specific page beats the general one, and we note the conflict rather than silently choosing. Where two marketing figures conflict and neither is contractual, we use the more cautious wording and say why. The fees page is built from Monzo’s fee information document for exactly this reason.

How we compare accounts

Comparisons and the best accounts guide weigh the same things in roughly the same order:

  1. Eligibility: which business types are accepted (sole traders, limited companies, partnerships, charities), residency rules and whether a director must apply.
  2. Protection: whether money is held by a bank and covered by the FSCS, or by an e-money institution under safeguarding rules.
  3. Fees: the monthly fee, UK transfers, cash and cheque deposits, card spending abroad, international payments and card acceptance.
  4. Features: tax set-aside tools, invoicing, accounting integrations, team access and expense cards, savings and lending.
  5. Practical use: how quickly an account opens, support, switching and the app.
  6. First-hand experience, where we have it, which today means Monzo Business on the Team plan only.

Payment plays no part in the order. No provider pays to be included, ranked or described in a particular way, and the only money the site earns is the single referral reward described on the how we make money page. That reward is the same whatever a page says, and it does not exist for any provider other than Monzo. When another account is the better fit, for example for a partnership, a cash-heavy shop or a business that trades in several currencies, we say so and link to it without any commercial arrangement.

First-hand versus researched

Chris’s company, a private limited company, has used Monzo Business for a few years and is on the Team plan. Where a page draws on that, it is written in the first person and usually set in a marked box, so you can tell it apart from research. Things we use: the Team plan, its savings boost, Tax Pots and the app day to day. Things we have not used as a customer include the Lite and Pro plans, the sole trader features, Monzo’s lending and every other provider on the site. Pages about those are labelled as researched from the provider’s own documents. The about page keeps the current list.

We do not dress research up as experience. If a page says “we” did something with the account, it happened. If we have not used a feature, we say so, and where a first-hand detail is missing we keep the sentence general rather than inventing a specific.

What we never publish

  • Invented testimonials or quotes. No “what customers say” sections, no anonymous business owners, no paraphrased reviews presented as our own findings.
  • Star ratings or scores. Neither on the page nor in structured data. A single number cannot carry the caveats that matter. Third-party scores, such as Monzo’s Trustpilot rating, appear only in prose, attributed and sourced.
  • Fabricated experience. No balances, amounts, dates or anecdotes that Chris has not supplied.
  • Language that overstates. No promises about approval, no “free money”, no suggestion that a referral reward is certain. The £50 is only for people who have never opened a Monzo account before and who complete the steps within 30 days, and we say so near every referral button.
  • Provider branding. No logos, card imagery or app screenshots. The name in plain text is enough.

Update cadence

  • Monthly: Monzo’s referral terms, fee information and plans page are re-checked against the figures on the site, and the offers page is refreshed. If anything has changed, the figure is updated in one place, the checked date moves, and every affected page shows a new updated date.
  • Quarterly: comparison pages and the best accounts guide are re-checked against each provider’s current pricing and terms.
  • As it happens: material changes, such as Monzo’s international payment fees changing on 1 November 2026, get a dated entry in news that links to the evergreen page it affects, rather than being silently folded in.

Every page shows its last-updated date under the heading. Those dates are set by hand when content changes, not generated automatically at build time, so a fresh date means a real edit.

Corrections

If you find a figure that is wrong, a link that has changed or a claim that no longer holds, email hello@ukbusinessbankaccounts.co.uk with the page and, ideally, a link to the source that shows the correct position. We aim to fix errors within a few days of confirming them. Material corrections, meaning anything that could change a reader’s decision such as a fee, a rate, an eligibility rule or the referral reward, are noted on the page itself with the date of the change. Typos and formatting fixes are made without a note. The contact page has more on what to include.

Use of AI

We use AI tools to help draft and edit text. We do not use them as a source. Chris reviews what is published, every figure is tied to the primary document listed in the Sources block, and external links are checked to exist before they go live. First-hand content describes only our own company’s use of Monzo Business. Where a drafting tool cannot know something, such as a detail of our experience, that detail is left out or asked for rather than filled in.

Not financial advice

Nothing on this site is financial advice or a personal recommendation. It is general information about how UK business bank accounts work and a first-hand account of one of them. Whether a particular account suits your business depends on facts we do not have. Accounts and lending are subject to the provider’s eligibility checks, so read the terms before you sign up and speak to an accountant or a regulated adviser where the decision matters. The is Monzo Business safe page explains who regulates Monzo and how deposit protection works.
