Monzo Business fees: every charge, from the fee sheet
By Chris
Monzo Business has a free plan, free UK transfers and no fee on card spending abroad. The charges that do apply are the plan fee on Pro (£9 a month) and Team (from £25 a month), £1 per deposit for cash, 1% on money received in other currencies, international transfer fees (which change on 1 November 2026) and Stripe’s fees if you take card payments.
This page is built from Monzo’s own business account fee information (Version 1.16, 18 August 2026), its plans page and its pages on taking card payments. Every figure on it comes from those documents. We bank with Monzo Business ourselves, as a limited company on the Team plan, so where it helps we say how the charges land in practice.
Every Monzo Business fee at a glance
Most of what a small business does each month is free. The table lists every charge Monzo publishes for the business account, plus the third-party card acceptance fees you will meet if you take card payments through the app.

Monzo’s fee sheet adds a standard caveat: fees may apply to other Monzo services not listed, and other banks may charge for sending money to you. Plan benefits are also confirmed in the app at sign-up, because, in Monzo’s words, plans can change from time to time.
Plan prices and team members
The plan fee is the only fixed monthly cost. Lite is free. Pro is £9 a month. Team is from £25 a month, with the first 6 team members included and then £5 a month per extra team member. There is no minimum term; downgrades refunded pro rata.
What the fee buys matters more than the fee. Pro and Team add Tax Pots, invoicing, accounting integrations, virtual cards, connected accounts and custom categories. Team adds expense cards, payment approvals, bulk payments and a bigger team. Monzo’s savings page also shows a higher instant access rate on some plans: it advertises up to 3.25% AER (variable), while its features page shows 1.30% AER (variable). Monzo does not publish a rate for each plan, so the rate you get depends on your plan; check the app.
Team pricing is easiest to read as a formula: £25 a month covers up to 6 people, and each person after that adds £5. A limited company can grow to up to 15 people with 3 admins. On Team you get 5 expense cardholders as standard; Monzo says extra cards cost more but does not list the price on its fee sheet, so ask in the app before you order a sixth.
If you are unsure which plan you need, the Lite vs Pro vs Team comparison goes feature by feature and shows when the monthly fee pays for itself.
What is free on every plan
The everyday banking is free on all three plans, including Lite. According to Monzo’s fee sheet, there is no charge for:
- sending money within the UK, including instant Faster Payments
- receiving money in pounds
- Direct Debits and standing orders
- card payments in pounds and in foreign currencies
- cash machine withdrawals in the UK and the EEA
- refused payments when there is not enough money in the account
- going into an unarranged overdraft
Monzo’s plans page also lists the core account, payments, card acceptance, savings pots and 24/7 support on every plan. Scheduled payments, digital receipts, Insights, the web app and instant access savings pots all come with Lite. Sole traders and landlords get free Making Tax Digital for Income Tax software; limited companies do not, because it does not file VAT or Corporation Tax.
That makes Monzo Business genuinely cheap for a business that mostly moves pounds around the UK and spends on the card. If that is you, the free business bank accounts guide compares Lite with other no-fee accounts and shows where the hidden charges sit at other providers.
Cash deposits
Paying in cash costs £1 per deposit at any PayPoint or Post Office. The fee is the same whether you pay in a small amount or a large one, so batching cash into fewer deposits is the simplest saving.
The monthly limits matter more than the fee for a cash-heavy business. A shop, market stall or trade business that takes more cash than the limit allows needs a second account with branch or counter deposits. The cash deposits page covers the limits, cheques and who Monzo does not suit.
Card spending and cash abroad
Monzo charges no fee on card spending abroad. That covers paying a hotel in euros, a software subscription billed in dollars or a supplier’s card terminal anywhere in the world. Many high-street business debit cards add a non-sterling transaction fee, so this is one of Monzo’s clearer advantages for a business that travels.
Cash machines are free in the UK and EEA. Outside the EEA, withdrawals are free up to £200 every 30 days outside the EEA, then 3%, measured over a rolling 30-day window. Monzo explains that foreign-currency withdrawals outside the EEA cost it money, which is why the charge exists. The machine’s operator may add its own fee on top, and that is outside Monzo’s control.
International payments
Sending money abroad is the fee that changes soonest. Until 31 October 2026, a transfer that involves a currency conversion costs a fixed fee of up to £9 plus 0% to 1.8% (until 31 October 2026), and Monzo uses a third-party exchange rate that is usually the mid-market rate.
From 1 November 2026, the fee becomes under £0.80 for most currencies, up to £11 in some cases, with a margin in the exchange rate (from 1 November 2026). Put simply, the fixed fee falls for most currencies but the exchange rate now carries Monzo’s margin, so the true cost is the difference between the rate you are quoted and the mid-market rate, plus the fee. Monzo holds each quote for 30 minutes, and the app shows the rate and total before you send.
Receiving money from abroad has its own charge: 1% conversion fee on incoming euros and other currencies, capped at £1,000. Monzo converts euros and other currencies into pounds before the money lands, using the IBAN shown in the app. There is no foreign-currency balance to hold money in. The international payments guide explains the 1 November change with examples and says when Wise or Revolut Business suit better.
Taking card payments
Monzo does not charge for accepting card payments, but Stripe does. Monzo’s Tap to Pay (contactless on your phone, no card reader) and card payments through invoices and payment links run on Stripe, and Stripe’s fees apply.
Stripe charges more for cards issued outside Europe, and more for premium and non-UK cards online. Monzo says it adds nothing on top, though it does receive a commission from Stripe. For a business that sells mostly in person, these fees will usually be larger than anything Monzo itself charges, as the first worked example below shows. Asking regular customers to pay by bank transfer through a payment link avoids them altogether. The invoicing guide covers how pay-by-bank links work on an invoice.
Overdraft charges
Going overdrawn without an arrangement costs nothing: the fee sheet lists no fee for an unarranged overdraft, and Monzo rejects most payments you cannot cover rather than charging. Some offline payments cannot be refused, and Monzo says it may report unarranged borrowing to credit reference agencies if it is not repaid.
An arranged overdraft is priced in your overdraft agreement. For sole traders Monzo advertises up to £3,000 at a representative 39.0% EAR (variable). For limited companies its pages conflict: one section describes £500 to £5,000 at a representative 35.9% EAR (variable), with an annual fee and a personal guarantee, while another says Monzo does not offer overdrafts to limited companies. Check in the app. The overdrafts and loans page has the detail.
Two worked examples of a typical month
These are illustrative months, not real customers. The amounts are invented to show how the charges add up; every fee is calculated from the figures above.
A sole trader on Pro who takes card payments in person
A self-employed sole trader takes 25 card payments a month averaging £60 with Tap to Pay, pays in cash twice, sends and receives plenty of UK transfers, and pays for fuel and materials on the card.
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Pro plan | £9 |
| 25 Tap to Pay sales at £60 (Stripe) | £26.00 |
| 2 cash deposits | £2 |
| UK transfers, Direct Debits, card spending | £0 |
| Total for the month | £37.00 |
Of that, only £11 goes to Monzo. The rest is Stripe’s card acceptance fee, which would be similar with most card-reader providers. On Lite the plan fee disappears, but so do Tax Pots and invoicing; for a sole trader who wants the tax set-aside done automatically, the tax set-aside calculator helps work out the percentage to use.
A small limited company on Team with 8 people
A small limited company has 8 people on the account. In a typical month it receives one invoice payment in euros worth about £4,000, pays one overseas supplier £1,500, is paid 3 invoices of £1,000 by UK debit card through a payment link, and a director spends on the card on a trip abroad.
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Team plan with 8 people (6 included, 2 extra) | £35 |
| Converting a £4,000 euro payment | £40 |
| £1,500 to a supplier abroad, before 1 November (maximum) | £36.00 |
| 3 card-paid invoices of £1,000 (Stripe) | £45.60 |
| Card spending abroad | £0 |
| Total for the month (worst case) | £156.60 |
The supplier payment is shown at the top of the pre-November range; many currencies cost less. From 1 November 2026 the visible fee for most currencies drops sharply, but the margin moves into the exchange rate, so the comparison is only fair if you check the quoted rate against the mid-market rate on the day. The card-paid invoices are the other big line: switching those clients to pay-by-bank links would save £45.60 a month.

How to keep Monzo Business costs down
- Pick the plan for the features, not the badge. If you do not use Tax Pots, invoicing or accounting sync, Lite does the banking for free. You can move between plans at any time.
- Batch cash. At £1 per deposit, one weekly deposit costs less than several small ones.
- Steer regular clients to bank transfer. Pay-by-bank links are free; card payments carry Stripe’s fee.
- Use the card abroad, not cash. Card spending abroad has no Monzo fee; cash outside the EEA does once you pass the allowance.
- Compare the full cost of each international payment. After 1 November, compare the quoted rate and fee with a specialist such as Wise before larger payments.
- Trim Team members. People who only need occasional access may not need a seat; each one past the first 6 costs £5 a month.
If your business is cash-heavy, sends a lot of money abroad or needs a branch, the Monzo Business alternatives page is the honest next read. If the fees suit you, opening through our link means we both get £50, but only if you have never had a Monzo account of any kind and complete the four steps within 30 days.
Frequently asked questions
Is Monzo Business free?
The Lite plan is free, with no monthly fee. UK transfers, Direct Debits, standing orders and card spending in pounds cost nothing on any plan. You still pay £1 per deposit for cash, a conversion fee on money received in other currencies, and Stripe’s fees if you take card payments. Pro and Team add a monthly fee for tax pots, invoicing and accounting sync.
How much does Monzo Business Pro cost?
Pro costs £9 a month, and Monzo says first month free. There is no minimum term; downgrades refunded pro rata, so you can move back to Lite whenever you like. Pro adds Tax Pots, invoicing, accounting integrations, virtual cards and connected accounts to everything in Lite.
What does Monzo charge to pay in cash?
Monzo charges £1 per deposit at any PayPoint or Post Office, whatever the amount. There are monthly limits: £10,000 a month (limited companies) and £3,000 a month (sole traders). Paying in fewer, larger amounts keeps the cost down.
Does Monzo Business charge for using the card abroad?
No. Monzo lists no fee on card spending abroad. Cash machines are free in the UK and EEA. Outside the EEA, withdrawals are free up to £200 every 30 days outside the EEA, then 3%. The ATM owner may add its own charge, which Monzo does not control.
Are Monzo Business international transfer fees changing?
Yes, from 1 November 2026. Until then the fee is a fixed fee of up to £9 plus 0% to 1.8% (until 31 October 2026). From that date it is under £0.80 for most currencies, up to £11 in some cases, with a margin in the exchange rate (from 1 November 2026). The app shows the rate and total before you confirm.
Does Monzo charge for card payments taken with Tap to Pay?
Monzo says it adds no fee of its own. Stripe, which runs the service, charges £0.20 + 1.4% for UK and European cards, and more for cards issued outside Europe. Card payments through invoices and payment links are £0.20 + 1.5% for standard UK cards on invoices and payment links. Bank transfer payments through Monzo’s pay-by-bank links are free.
Is there a fee for going overdrawn without an overdraft?
Monzo’s fee sheet lists no fee for an unarranged overdraft, and it rejects most payments you cannot cover without charging. If you have an arranged overdraft, interest and any annual fee are set out in your overdraft agreement.
