Monzo Business plan picker: Lite, Pro or Team?
By Chris
Tick the features you need and say how many people need access. The picker names the cheapest Monzo Business plan that covers them, from Lite at free to Pro at £9 a month and Team from £25 a month, and works out the cost for a year.

Lite
- Nothing you ticked needs a paid plan. Lite is free and includes the core account, payments, card acceptance, savings pots and 24/7 support.
Prices from Monzo’s plans page and fee sheet: Pro £9 a month (first month free), Team from £25 a month with the first 6 team members included then £5 a month per extra team member. Expense cards on Team: 5 expense cardholders as standard; extra cards cost more. Plan benefits are confirmed in the app at sign-up. No minimum term; downgrades refunded pro rata.

The picker is above. The rest of this page explains which feature sits on which plan, where the price jumps, and the assumptions behind the annual figure.
How the picker decides
It starts at Lite and moves up only when something you tick requires it. Each feature is mapped to the cheapest plan that includes it, using Monzo’s plans page. Team size is the other lever: adding anyone at all needs a paid plan, and a larger limited company team needs Team. The result is the lowest plan that covers everything, with the reasons listed underneath so you can see which tick did it.
When Lite is enough
Lite is a full business current account, not a trial. It includes the core account, payments, card acceptance, savings pots and 24/7 support. A sole trader who invoices from accounting software, sets tax aside by hand and works alone can run happily on it. So can a small company that only needs somewhere separate for income and outgoings while it gets going.
If none of the features in the picker matter to you and nobody else needs access, the picker will say Lite, and you can always upgrade later. Our Lite, Pro and Team comparison lists everything on each plan in one table.
What tips you into Pro
Pro adds Tax Pots, invoicing, accounting integrations, virtual cards, connected accounts and custom categories. Any one of those ticked in the picker means Pro. In practice it is usually one of three:
- Tax Pots, which move a percentage of every incoming payment, moved automatically. You can have up to 3 Tax Pots. Our Tax Pots guide explains how sole traders and companies set them up, and the tax set-aside calculator suggests a percentage.
- Invoicing: invoices and quotes in the app or on the web, with automatic matching and a pay-by-card link. See how Monzo Business invoicing works.
- Accounting sync with Xero, FreeAgent, Sage and QuickBooks. Monzo currently offers 6 months' free Xero with Pro, 8 months with Team (new Xero customers, until 31 May 2027), which on its own can offset a good part of the fee for a new Xero user.
Over a full year Pro costs £108, or £99 in year one with the free month. Whether that pays for itself is the question behind is Monzo Business Pro worth it.
What only Team does
Team adds expense cards, payment approvals, bulk payments and a bigger team. Tick expense cards, payment approvals or bulk payments and the picker will say Team whatever else you choose.
- Expense cards: 5 expense cardholders as standard. Each cardholder spends within limits you set and sees only their own spending.
- Payment approvals: spend and transfer limits per person, with admin approval above them.
- Bulk payments: up to 200 payments at once from a CSV, useful for paying freelancers or suppliers in one go.
Team size and what it costs
Sole traders can have a team of 3 (you plus 2), and adding anyone needs Pro or Team. On Pro those people are collaborators; expense cardholder access is Team only. The picker caps sole traders at 3 people.
Limited companies can have up to 15 people on Team, with the first 6 team members included and at most 3 admins. After that it is £5 a month per extra team member. Monzo’s team page describes the company team of 15 as a Team feature and does not say how many people a company can add on Pro. So for a company of two or three people with no Team-only features, the picker says Pro with a note to check the limit in the app; above three it says Team.
| Company team on Team | Monthly | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| 1 person | £25 | £300 |
| 6 people | £25 | £300 |
| 10 people | £45 | £540 |
| 15 people | £70 | £840 |
So a company with 10 people pays £540 a year on Team, against £300 for up to 6.
How the annual cost is worked out
Lite is £0. Pro is twelve months at the monthly price, less the free first month in year one. Team is the base price plus £5 a month for each person beyond the first 6, counted over twelve months. The picker does not assume a free month on Team because the plans page only states it for Pro.
Plan fees are not the whole cost of an account. Cash deposits, international payments and card acceptance are charged per use on every plan; the full Monzo Business fee list has them, and the business bank account cost calculator adds them up against other providers. Plans can change from time to time. Exact plan benefits are confirmed during signup in the app.
Common set-ups and where they land
Most businesses that use the picker fall into a handful of patterns. These are worked through the same rules the picker uses, so you can sanity-check its answer.
- A sole trader working alone, invoicing from separate software and setting tax aside by hand. Nothing here needs a paid plan, so Lite. If you would rather Monzo moved the tax money for you, ticking Tax Pots moves you to Pro.
- A sole trader with a bookkeeper or partner who needs to see the account. Adding anyone needs Pro or Team, and a sole trader’s team is capped at 3 people on either. Pro, unless that person also needs an expense card.
- A one-director company using Xero or another accounting package. Accounting sync is a Pro feature, so Pro. With 6 months' free Xero with Pro, 8 months with Team (new Xero customers, until 31 May 2027), a new Xero customer gets some of the fee back in software savings.
- A small company where staff buy things for the business. Expense cards are Team only, so Team, with the first 6 team members included before any extra charge.
- A company paying many freelancers or suppliers each month. Bulk payments are Team only: up to 200 payments at once from a CSV. Team, whatever the team size.
Changing plan later
There is no minimum term; downgrades refunded pro rata, so the choice is not a commitment. A reasonable approach is to start on the lowest plan the picker suggests and move up when you hit a limit, rather than paying for features you might use one day.
If you are opening a new account rather than switching plan, the referral reward is the same on every plan, and the bonus checker tells you whether you qualify before you start.
Frequently asked questions
Which Monzo Business plan do most small businesses need?
It depends on two things: whether you want Tax Pots, invoicing or accounting sync, and how many people need access. With neither, Lite is free and covers everyday banking. Any one of those features means Pro at £9 a month. Expense cards, approvals, bulk payments or a bigger company team mean Team.
Is the first month free on every plan?
Monzo's plans page says Pro comes with the first month free. It does not say the same for Team, so the picker does not assume it. Lite has no fee to waive. You can change plan at any time: no minimum term; downgrades refunded pro rata.
How much does each extra person cost on Team?
Team starts from £25 a month with the first 6 team members included, then £5 a month per extra team member. A limited company can have up to 15 people, of whom at most 3 admins. The picker counts everyone who needs access, including you.
Can a sole trader use the Team plan?
Yes. Sole traders can choose any plan, but the team is limited to a team of 3 (you plus 2) whichever plan you are on. Team is worth it for a sole trader mainly for expense cards, approvals or bulk payments, not for team size.
Does the plan I choose affect the £50 referral reward?
No. The reward applies on any Monzo Business plan, including free Lite. Choose the plan that fits; the referral conditions are the same on all three.
Does the picker take savings interest into account?
No. Monzo shows up to 3.25% AER (variable) on its savings page and a lower rate elsewhere, and does not publish rates per plan. Because the rate depends on your plan and can change, check the app before treating interest as part of the plan's value.
